How to use CSV files with Email Merge Version 1.x?

You can use the following work around for older versions of EmailMerge.

E-mail addresses need to be in any contacts folders inside Outlook to do E-mail merge. However, you can use EmailMerge by creating a new Contacts folder and importing from the CSV file. This way the CSV contacts do not interfere with your normal contacts.

To import a list of contacts from a Coma Separated Values (CSV) file with two fields say FirstName and Email1Address follow the steps:

Start Outlook and go to your Inbox
Click File -> Import&Export
Choose import from another Program or File and click next
Choose Coma Separated Values (Windows) and click next
Choose your source file and click next
Choose your destination folder (make sure it is a contacts folder) and click Next
Click Map Custom Fields
Drag and drop FirstName to First Name (You will need to click the plus sign beside the Name field)
Drag and drop Email Address to Email Address
Click OK
Click Finish

Now when sending the e-mail, in step 2 of the EmailMerge wizard, browse for the contacts folder (in which you have just imported the contacts into) and complete the wizard to send the e-mail to these contacts from the CSV file.
