What is the difference between M365 (Cloud) and COM Addin(On-Premise) versions of SendGuard.

Cloud Version (SendGuard365 Add-in)

  • Platform Support: Works on New Outlook for Windows and Mac, Outlook on the web (OWA), and Classic Outlook for Windows.
  • Deployment & Management: Deployed through the Microsoft 365 Admin Center and managed using the SendGuard Management Console.
  • Data Handling:
    1. No customer data is stored by the add-in, except for license details.
    2. For the Premium plan, attachments are scanned for sensitive data on SendGuard servers, but no data is stored.
    3. For Lite and Pro plans, all processing happens locally in the user’s Outlook or browser.
  • Advantages: Easier deployment and management, supports multiple platforms, and keeps most data processing on the client-side for security.

On-Premises Version (SendGuard COM Add-in)

  • Platform Support: Only works on Classic Outlook for Windows.
  • Deployment & Management: Can be deployed and managed using Group Policy (GPO), Microsoft Intune, or the SendGuard Management Console.
  • Data Handling:
    1. Only connects online to verify the license.
    2. For Premium plans, all DLP scanning happens locally on the user’s machine, no data leaves the device.

Security & Confidentiality:

Both versions prioritize data security:
  • The Cloud add-in minimizes data transfer, only scanning attachments on the server for the Premium plan without storing them.
  • The On-Premises add-in keeps all processing on the local machine, offering full control over data.
